Week 11 Start'em - Sit'em

Wednesday, Nov 13, 2019 at 12:00 pm ET

This is the Fantasy Football Nerd's look at the best and worst matchups for Week 11 of the 2019 NFL season. Analysis is aggregated from multiple sources including FFN. FFN rankings are based upon PPR (point per reception) scoring. Given the known conditions, these matchups are the ones to watch and/or avoid.

Please Note: This list does not generally include the elite players that you are going to start regardless of matchup. You don't need us to tell you to start Aaron Rodgers, Travis Kelce, or DeAndre Hopkins. Instead, we take a look at other players on your team that we believe either have great matchups or should be avoided for multiple reasons. Factors like opposing defense, performance trending, and peer comparisons may influence our decisions.

Start 'em Josh Allen (BUF, QB)
Whether via his arm or his legs, Josh Allen has been scoring fantasy points. This week he gets the Dolphins again. He put up 19 fantasy points against them back in Week 7 and could easily eclipse 20 points in this one.
Start 'em Derek Carr (OAK, QB)
Ranked 10th this week on FFN, Derek Carr is a great option against a Bengals defense that gives up the 3rd-most fantasy points to QBs this year. 20+ fantasy points is certainly in range here. Carr also makes for a nice value play in DFS.
Start 'em Jimmy Garoppolo (SF, QB)
After suffering through their first loss of the season last week, Jimmy Garoppolo should bounce back nicely in this one against the Cardinals. He put up a whopping 29 fantasy points against Arizona just two weeks ago. Jimmy G is ranked inside our Top 12 this week and should have little trouble finishing there.
Start 'em Brian Hill (ATL, RB)
Brian Hill is perhaps the most popular name on the waiver wire that nobody has ever heard of. With Devonta Freeman "a long shot to play" and Ito Smith placed on I.R., Hill has an opportunity to shine facing a Panthers team giving up the 2nd-most fantasy points to running backs this year.
Start 'em Josh Jacobs (OAK, RB)
Even with a questionable tag hovering over him, Josh Jacobs should be just fine to turn in an RB1-type of performance this week against the Bengals and their league-worst rush defense (173 yards/game on the ground). They give up the 7th-most fantasy points which is why you'll find Jacobs inside our Top 12 this week.
Start 'em Joe Mixon (CIN, RB)
If fantasy sports were a seesaw, Joe Mixon would be on his way back up. With Ryan Finley under center, we saw Mixon's volume go up considerably. He rushed 30 times last week for 114 yards. The Oakland defense has been pretty solid this year, but they gave up 20 points to Melvin Gordon last week and 16 points to J.D. McKissic the week before. As long as Mixon gets the volume, he should produce.
Start 'em D.J. Moore (CAR, WR)
For the first time, D.J. Moore finds himself inside our Top 12 rankings making him a bona fide fantasy WR1. He's leading the team in targets and has posted back-to-back 100 yard games the past two weeks. The Falcons give up the 6th-most fantasy points to opposing receivers and Moore is on a roll.
Start 'em John Brown (BUF, WR)
Perhaps one of the quietest and most under-rated receivers in fantasy this year is John Brown. He's put up solid numbers all year (18th-best fantasy WR on the season) and this week he gets the Dolphins who are giving up the 9th-most fantasy points to receivers. Another double-digit day is in his future.
Start 'em Terry McLaurin (WAS, WR)
We haven't heard much from Terry McLaurin but that's likely due to the fact that four of his last five games have been against brutally tough defenses (NE, SF, MIN, and BUF). The pressure should be off this week when he faces the 7th-ranked Jets secondary. Fire up F1 back into your lineups.
Start 'em Jared Cook (NO, TE)
For the first time all year, Jared Cook saw double-digit targets. He turned that into 6-for-74 which was exactly double his production from the game prior. As long as they keep him involved in the passing game, Cook has a chance to really shine this week against the Bucs who are giving up the 2nd-most fantasy points to tight ends this year.
Start 'em Kyle Rudolph (MIN, TE)
Where has Kyle Rudolph been all year? We know where he was last week - in the endzone...twice. With Thielen likely to miss another game and the secondary keying in on Bisi Johnson and Stefon Diggs, Rudolph could be the one to shine once again.
Start 'em Oakland Raiders (OAK, DEF)
Looking for a streaming option at DEF? Look no further than the Raiders who are available in more than half of all leagues across all major platforms. Oakland faces a Cincy defense that has struggled to put points on the board and surrenders the 4th-most fantasy points this year.
Start 'em Daniel Carlson (OAK, K)
Looking for another streaming option? We can stay with the Raiders for this one. Daniel Carlson comes into our rankings this week at #5 facing that Cincy defense that is giving up close to 10 fantasy points every week to opposing kickers.
Sit 'em Philip Rivers (LAC, QB)
Rivers is ranked just outside of our Top 12 this week which presents a challenge for fantasy owners. He's a known quantity who has been able to deliver points in the past, but his play as of late has been erratic. He has more interceptions than touchdowns over his last three games. Kansas City ranks in the middle of the pack as far as fantasy points allowed goes, but Rivers will likely be a gamble again this week.
Sit 'em Carson Wentz (PHI, QB)
Facing a Patriots defense that is coming off their bye week, look for Carson Wentz to struggle. Other than Lamar Jackson who handed New England its first loss, every QB has struggled. In fact, no defense gives up fewer fantasy points to opposing signal callers than New England. Wentz is ranked 17th this week and should be sitting on your bench.
Sit 'em Jared Goff (LAR, QB)
Will the real Jared Goff please stand up? After a fantastic season in 2018, Goff is the 18th-ranked QB after 10 weeks. His luck isn't likely to change this week as he faces a Bears defense that has kept QBs under wraps surrendering the 8th-fewest fantasy points to them.
Sit 'em David Johnson (ARI, RB)
Are you kidding me? Fantasy owners would have scored more points by simply not starting DJ last week. Not only did Johnson look like a man completely hobbled by his ankle and back injuries, the rise of Kenyan Drake meant that the Cardinals had little incentive to get Johnson going. A matchup with a stout Niners defense is not a good situation.
Sit 'em LeSean McCoy (KC, RB)
A matchup with the Chargers looks fantastic on paper. They're giving up the 5th-most fantasy points this year, but McCoy's fumbling issues presents a dilemma for both fantasy owners and the Chargers. Damien Williams has resumed his role atop the depth chart. Until McCoy earns a larger role and workload, he's not worth rostering any longer.
Sit 'em Jordan Howard (PHI, RB)
Whether it's Jordan Howard or Miles Sanders, neither is a good option against a Patriots defense that has surrendered the fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. Howard's saving grace this year has been his ability to find the endzone (7 times). It certainly hasn't been his ability to rack up yards as he has yet to see a 100-yard game rushing.
Sit 'em Christian Kirk (ARI, WR)
After a monster 3-touchdown game last week, fantasy owners suffering from recency bias are going to struggle to sit Christian Kirk this week. San Francisco has kept slot receivers to the fewest fantasy points in the NFL and Kirk managed just 3.6 fantasy points against them in Week 9. Ouch.
Sit 'em Alshon Jeffery (PHI, WR)
Add another Eagle to the sit list. After getting hurt in Week 9, Jeffery has had a week to rest but still remains day to day. A banged up Jeffery facing a New England defense that has given up the fewest fantasy points to the position this year is not a recipe for fantasy success.
Sit 'em Emmanuel Sanders (SF, WR)
After coming up gimpy holding his ribs on Monday night, Sanders has been sidelined at practice. With Kittle and Breida hurt, the Niners could really use Sanders. Unfortunately he's looking to be a game-time decision. He's an unnecessary risk for fantasy owners right now.
Sit 'em Mike Gesicki (MIA, TE)
The TE position has been depleted in fantasy this year, so as tempting as it might be to play Mike Gesicki...don't bother. The Bills are brutal here giving up the 2nd-fewest points to the position. Gesicki put up 8 points back in Week 7 and that qualifies as one of the best performances by a TE against Buffalo this year.
Sit 'em O.J. Howard (TB, TE)
One game is not a trend. Howard finally put up decent numbers and found the endzone for the first time this year, but that was against the Cardinals. A matchup with the Saints is no joke and Howard will likely be relegated to TE afterthought once again. He's ranked 17th this week on FFN.
Sit 'em Houston Texans (HOU, DEF)
We saw what the top-rated Patriots defense has to put up with when Lamar Jackson and the Ravens came to town. Why would we expect the Texans to somehow change that narrative? Baltimore is giving up the 6th-fewest fantasy points to DEF's this season.
Sit 'em Zane Gonzalez (ARI, K)
One of the better fantasy kickers this year has been Zane Gonzalez (2nd overall on the season), but he's likely to struggle this week against the Niners who have allowed the 3rd-fewest fantasy points to the position this year.

RaiderLuv4LIFE CommentedNov 14, 2019 11:00 am

Make a app so We can get alerts when post updates!! Ha

Nerd CommentedNov 15, 2019 11:00 am

I like Deebo in that one for a flex. Great upside there!

Appreciate the app comment. We're considering a rebranding opportunity next year so don't want to put the cart before the horse.

What happened to most added, most dropped tool? Miss reviewing the tool for a sanity checks regarding drops and adds, probably more about who's being dropped more than who's being added. Adds tend to follow point chasing more than drop decisions at this time of year.

RaiderLuv4LIFE CommentedNov 15, 2019 11:00 am

Haha, nice. Ok thx for the advise!

luda CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

PPR Flex...Guice,Moststart,Dwelly or Hyde?

Nerd CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

Most added/dropped should be fixed now.

Nerd CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

@luda - I like Hyde out of that bunch. Good luck!

Cabana_Joe CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

Hey. Thoughts on Nick Foles?

Nerd CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

Yep - I have Nick Foles in my Superflex league where you can start 2-QB's. That's really the only place that I would start him though and only as my 2nd QB.

Matthias CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

So, based on your start/sit info, am I correct in assuming that you’d recommend starting Rudolph over Howard, and Sutton over Sanders? And what about picking up Hollister next week instead of either Rudolph/Howard? Thanks!

Matthias CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

Also (sorry - 1 more): Start Dallas, NY Jets, or Oakland DST?

Nerd CommentedNov 16, 2019 11:00 am

It looks like Howard and Rudolph are ranked the same (using PPR scoring) in our consensus rankings. Difficult to project which will have a decent day. No Thielen so Rudolph gets a bump there, but Howard finally saw a season-high 7 targets. Roll the dice. It's probably going to come down to who gets in the endzone.

I do like Sutton over Sanders though.

I also like Jacob Hollister for anyone who needs a TE (and frankly, given the injuries in that position, who doesn't?).

On DEF - I like the Jets against Washington.

Good luck!

jamisdiablo CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

Latest on Damien Williams? I have Gordon, Williams and Sanders for two RB slots but this latest development on Damien has me worried and maybe I need to Put in sanders after all?

Cook24 CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

Still go with golladay with stafford out?
I have pascal who has decent matchup with brissett coming back. Thought??

Nerd CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

@jamisdiablo - According to Ian Rapoport, Williams flew with the team and is expected to play.

@Cook24 - I'd still play Golladay. With Stafford expected to be out 6 weeks, they will have to find a way to get him the ball if they expect to win.

Cook24 CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

Play fells or doyle today??

jamisdiablo CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

Cook24. Fells for me. Dwilliams or msanders std league?

Nerd CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

Sorry guys - got caught up. For me, I like Doyle but could still see Fells having a better day. @Cook24 - be sure to check the TE rankings if your question isn't answered in time.

I still like Williams over Sanders.

Good luck this week guys!

jamisdiablo CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

@nerd how about sanders over mgiii ?

Nerd CommentedNov 17, 2019 11:00 am

Would rather have Gordon
