Player News

NBC SportsDolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that the team has designated Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) for return.

As ESPN's Adam Schefter notes, Tagovailoa still needs to pass concussion protocol before he can play. The fact he's being designated for return, however, bodes well for him playing in Week 8 against the Cardinals as long as he does get through those protocols. The Dolphins passing game has been wretched since Tagovailoa has been out, and while there's significant risks involved, the southpaw returning would be great news for those who roster Tyreek Hill and Jayden Waddle.

NBC SportsJonnu Smith caught 7-of-7 targets for 96 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' Week 7 loss to the Colts.

With Tyler Huntley/Tim Boyle predictably struggling to get anything going down the field, Smith and his yards-after-catch skill-set popped up for the second most yards of his entire career. Smith's 10-yard score was a Huntley dump-off where the seam man did all the work. Excellent stuff, though Tua Tagovailoa's expected Week 8 return will reset the Dolphins' entire offense. Despite his intriguing box scores of late, Smith will probably fall just outside the top 12 against the Cardinals with Tua more likely to funnel looks Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle's way.

NBC SportsTyreek Hill caught 1-of-2 targets for eight yards in the Dolphins' Week 7 loss to the Colts.

Hill drew zero looks in the first half, the first time in his entire career he went an entire half without a target. His lone reception kicked off the Dolphins' final drive with No. 3 quarterback Tim Boyle under center. Nightmare. The only good news is that Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is on track to return in Week 8 against the Cardinals. Arizona has been surrendering a ton of receiver fantasy points this season. Despite Hill's now multi-month slump, he will immediately return to top-12 relevance upon Tua's return.

Draft SharksTua Tagovailoa On Track For Week 8 Return

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is expected to practice next week, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini. "As long as there are no setbacks, the hope is for Tagovailoa to play in the Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals," Russini adds. Tagovailoa has not had any lingering issues from his latest concussion, and Russini intimates that he's already cleared protocol. We'll track Tagovailoa's practice participation next week, but his return would obviously be excellent news for RB De'Von Achane, WR Tyreek Hill, and WR Jaylen Waddle. We'd take a crack at trading for those guys right now.
