John Metchie News

NBC SportsJohn Metchie caught 4-of-5 targets for 25 yards in the Jets' Week 15 loss to the Jaguars.

The good news: Metchie has now caught at least four passes in four consecutive contests. The bad: He has not exceeded 34 yards in any of the past three weeks. Throw in the Jets' ongoing quarterback carousel, and you have a No. 2 wideout struggling for WR4 relevance in fantasy football. There are worse 14-team league plays, but far, far better 12-team league options.

NBC SportsJustin Fields (knee) was not seen at Thursday's practice.

Tyrod Taylor was also absent during the portion of practice open to the media. All signs point to Brady Cook making his starting NFL debut on Sunday. Cooks took over for Taylor mid-game last week and was a disaster. He completed fewer than half of his attempts and was intercepted twice. Cook also took six sacks. Cook being named the starter would take Aondai Mitchell and John Metchie off the fantasy radar for Week 15. Cook himself won't be a fantasy option, even in Superflex leagues.

NBC SportsJohn Metchie caught 4-of-8 targets for 34 yards in the Jets' Week 14 loss to the Dolphins.

Pacing all Jets receivers by playing 56-of-58 snaps, Metchie tied for the team lead with eight targets. He was involved in both of Brady Cook's red zone drives, with Cook looking his way on a red zone interception and Metchie dropping a pass that would have been a sure-fire touchdown in the second half. It was his second straight week dropping a potential touchdown. Neither he nor Adonai Mitchell are enticing WR1 options for the Jets offense, but they are both slated for heavy opportunity with Garrett Wilson out. Metchie has WR4 upside for Week 15 against the Jaguars.

NBC SportsTyrod Taylor completed 19-of-33 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown in the Jets' 27-24, Week 13 win over the Falcons, adding eight rushes for 44 yards and a second score.

Not the world's most amazing box score, but certainly better than what Justin Fields had been providing. Taylor also lost a potential second passing score when John Metchie dropped what looked like a TD early in the fourth quarter. For the touchdown Taylor did convert, he hit Adonai Mitchell after the boom/bust wideout ran right by Mike Hughes. It wasn't Taylor's best throw, but one Mitchell adjusted to. This being Taylor, he also got shaken up on a big second half hit but thankfully avoided any missed snaps. He will undoubtedly be sore on Monday, but Taylor should be out there for a plus Week 14 date with the Dolphins. He will find himself on the QB2/3 borderline in superflex leagues.
