2025 Season Outlooks

Williams will get drafted as a low-end No. 1 RB, but he's not in as much demand as he was this time last year. With effectively the same touches he had from 2023, Williams averaged fewer yards per carry, yards per reception, yards before and after contact and, most importantly, fewer Fantasy points per game (from 21.2 to 17). Four fumbles lost, including one in a do-or-die playoff game, didn't help. He's entering a contract year, which should motivate him to post his best possible numbers, but the Rams have drafted a running back in each of their past two drafts (Auburn's Jarquez Hunter was this year's addition), so they'll have some options in case Williams doesn't play to expectations. They might even reduce his playing time by a little bit in an attempt to keep him fresh. None of this sounds great, but none of this should overshadow the high Fantasy numbers he's given us over the past two seasons: Williams racked up 15-plus PPR points in 10 of 16 regular-season games (and 19 of his last 28 regular-season games), and the 17 PPR points per game last year still ranked in the top 10 at the position. He should have the chance to hit that number again as long as he hangs onto the football. He's fine to take toward the back-half of Round 2, but he's a steal if you can nab him in Round 3.

One of fantasy's most productive backs over the last two seasons, Williams has scored 31 touchdowns (tied for most among RBs) and averaged 18.8 fantasy PPG (fourth highest) during the span. Last season, he paced all backs in snaps and carries inside the opponent's 5-yard line (19), while ranking no lower than seventh in carries, rushing yards, touches and TDs. He had an extremely high floor (28th was his worst weekly finish) despite limited work as a receiver (outside the top 25 in receptions and yards for the second straight season). Williams' 610 touches over the last two seasons (third most) is a moderate concern, but he's in his prime at age 25 and well positioned as the Rams' feature back. He should be valued as a fringe RB1.

He’s been the most effective runner from a fantasy perspective over the last two seasons combined. He ranks first in fantasy points per game from rushing at 14. He also ranks in the top five on a per-game basis in rushing yards (87.3), yards after contact (57.9), rushing touchdowns (0.93), rushing avoided tackles (3.8) and PPR fantasy points (18.8).
With less efficient play, his fantasy points per game dropped from 21.3 in 2023 to 17.0 in 2024. His PFF rushing grade dropped from 90.6 to 74.0.
Since McVay became head coach, the Rams have ranked fourth in rushing attempts differential between the starter and the backups. The other four teams are the Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals. For most of that time, those teams had Derrick Henry, Ezekiel Elliott, Josh Jacobs and Joe Mixon, who are the four running backs with 1,600 or more carries. None of the Rams' running backs have over 1,000 carries in that time, making this a coach's philosophy more so than a particular running back's philosophy.
