The stylistic shift in the Colts' offense was on full display in Week 1. Anthony Richardson completed three passes of over 50 yards, none of which were connections with Pittman. The good news is that Pittman was still the top target-earner for the Colts by a wide margin. His eight targets were good for a 42 percent target share. The Colts only threw 19 passes, depressing the volume for everyone. Pittman may be capped at WR2 numbers in this new version of the Colts' passing attack, but better days should be ahead for the veteran receiver. He and the Colts get the Packers in Week 2.
Colts WR Josh Downs (ankle) is out for Sunday s game vs. the Texans. He officially didn t practice all week but was seen sprinting on Friday. We ll see if Downs can make it back from his high-ankle sprain for Week 2. Michael Pittman, Adonai Mitchell, and Alec Pierce will operate as Indianapolis clear top three WRs this weekend.
Downs did not practice on Wednesday but said he ran some routes. The second-year receiver hasn't ruled out the possibility of playing in Week 1 against the Texans, but the real tell will be his practice status later in the day. If he can log a limited session before the end of the week, Downs may be ready to go for the opener. If not, rookie Adonai Mitchell could see a bigger role as the No. 2 receiver opposite Michael Pittman Jr.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen has yet to rule out Downs. Still, he appears to be a long shot to suit up for Week 1 against the Texans. Downs picked up the ankle injury August 7 and was given a recovery time of 4-6 weeks. It wouldn't be surprising if the Colts held out Down until Week 3. If Downs is sidelined, Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce, and Adonai Mitchell would likely be the team's top three wideouts. Anthony Gould could work in as a slot receiver too.
Suffered high-ankle sprain about a month ago Josh Downs progressing well while rehabbing high ankle sprain. No indication if he ll practice Wed. (FOX 59 - Mike Chappell) FF Today's Take: Fantasy managers should get a pretty good idea about his Week 1 availability based on his practice participation level on Wednesday. Even if he cannot play this week or next, he needs to be a high-priority target in the later rounds. Early camp reports suggested he looked the best of all the Indy receivers, including Michael Pittman Jr. Downs may begin the season as a WR5/6, but he is one of the best bets to become a weekly starter among players drafted after pick 100.
