2023 Season Outlooks

Lamb has become one of the best Fantasy receivers heading into this season, and he's worth drafting toward the end of Round 1 or beginning of Round 2 in all leagues. He should have another outstanding campaign as the No. 1 target for Dak Prescott. In his first season without Amari Cooper in 2022, Lamb set career highs in targets (156), receptions (107), yards (1,359) and touchdowns (nine), and he averaged a career-best 17.7 PPR points per game, which was No. 7 among receivers. He should once again command 150-plus targets from Prescott, and that puts him in rare company, as only five receivers hit that number last year. Once Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Cooper Kupp, Tyreek Hill and Stefon Diggs come off the board, Lamb should be among the next receivers drafted in the top 15 overall picks.

Lamb delivered on a Round 2 ADP last year, showcasing an ability to stay durable and productive on high volume.

Dallas improved the WR corps for 2023 with the addition of Brandin Cooks. But we have no doubt Lamb will remain an elite target earner. Continue drafting him as a comfy WR1.

What We Learned Last YearLamb set career highs in targets (156), catches (107), yards (1,359), and TDs (9).The now 24-year-old finished PPR WR6, only 2 points behind WR5 A.J. Brown.Lamb finished as a top-12 WR seven times. He ranked WR30 or worse six times. Three such games came with Dak Prescott sidelined (thumb fracture).Lamb posted five 100-yard games, a number only five WRs beat.He was a movable chess piece for OC Kellen Moore and HC Mike McCarthy, playing 62.7% of his passing snaps in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus. That marked an increase from 2021 (39.8%).Lamb soaked up targets in the short range with an aDOT of 10.5 yards – right in line with his career average. He remained highly efficient with a 72.3% catch rate and 2.38 yards per route run. Among 30 WRs with 100+ targets, those numbers ranked sixth and ninth, respectively. Both set career highs.Lamb remained durable, playing all 17 games. He has missed only one game through three seasons (concussion, 2021).What to Expect in 2023Only 24, Lamb is likely still ascending as an NFL player. Our work with historical aging curves suggests that his peak is another year or two away.Dak Prescott returns for Year 8 after losing five 2022 games to a Week 1 thumb fracture. HC Mike McCarthy will call plays after OC Kellen Moore’s departure to the Chargers. Brian Schottenheimer earned the promotion to OC. He has talked about keeping a “fast” approach on offense while not making any drastic changes overall.Dallas added 30-year-old WR Brandin Cooks in a trade.Cooks isn’t the No. 1 WR we saw earlier in his career, but he’s a solid No. 2 and should help stretch the field. The team believes WR Michael Gallup will be more effective after a sluggish return from ACL surgery.Neither guy should substantially impact Lamb’s target count. One reason why: Dallas lost TE Dalton Schultz in free agency, and we’d bet on some of those 89 targets moving to the WRs.Dallas added Round 2 TE Luke Schoonmaker, but he has missed time in OTAs with a foot issue and isn’t locked into a meaningful role.

Following two solid but unspectacular fantasy seasons to begin his career, Lamb took his game to the next level in 2022. The 2020 first-round pick set career-high marks across the board and finished no lower than seventh among WRs in target share (28%), targets, receptions, yards, TDs and, of course, fantasy points. If there's one red flag here, it's that Lamb wasn't used much near the end zone (career-low six end zone targets) and ended up a bit lucky in the TD department (nine TDs, 5.4 expected). Of course, even if the TDs fall a bit, the 24-year-old is all but assured a massive target share and is one of the league's most-talented young receivers. Lamb is a midrange WR1, and it's possible we've yet to see his best season.
