The Football Girl

A few weeks ago I wrote about the positive impact that women have had in fantasy football. Their numbers are increasing and that's a trend that I support. Since then I've received quite a few emails from many of you with your stories including more than one husband who has lost to his wife (I did win against mine but that's another story). I face two more women this week and they are going to be close matchups. Too close to call actually.

There are incredible sites like FFLibrarian.com (one of my favorites), the "very popular with the men" FantasySportsGirl.com, Jordan Zucker's Girls' Guide to Fantasy Football, and more.

Here's a new one that you need to checkout and bookmark. TheFootballGirl.com has launched with a major splash. In a very rare interview, Melissa interviews Barry Sanders, one of the all-time greats. Seriously - how incredible is that? Who among us hasn't wondered what he's up to? Does he watch Lions games? His top 3 fantasy running backs of today? Now that's the way to introduce yourself to the fantasy football world.

There are a couple of great features to this site. One is the Featured Football Girl and she's debuting with Bonnie-Jill Laflin. Bonnie-Jill Laflin is a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. For many that would be enough, but she continued on to become the NBA's first female scout for the Los Angeles Lakers and Assistant General Manager for the Los Angeles D-Fenders. She can currently be seen hosting ESPN2's "SpeedWorld", serving as a correspondent for ESPN's morning show "Cold Pizza" and as a cast member of Spike TV's "Hotlines". She's amazingly beautiful but don't let her looks fool you. She's a dedicated professional who continues to smash that proverbial glass ceiling. It's a great interview and she's an amazing role model.

One of my favorite features to the site is the Injuries and Impacts section. Unlike FFN's Injuries section, The Football Girl highlights the injuries that impact us, gives us an estimated time out, and a snippet about the injury itself.

While you're on there, check out her Week 4 Picks. She's picking my beloved Packers over the Vikings. I knew there was something I liked about her!

For those women (and men) who are new to the game, The Football Girl has a great Football 101 section covering all the basics that you need to know.

For a dose of humor, check out her Woe Is The Commish article. Anyone who has ever had to fill that role can sympathize and chuckle.

Overall it's a great site and it really highlights the point I've tried to make about the increasing diversity of fantasy football and the NFL itself. I find that my co-ed leagues are far more entertaining and this is a positive trend for the industry.

Good luck Melissa!
