A New Reality

Grab your winter jacket because Hell just froze over. Ok, so maybe it's not that dramatic, but get ready for a new reality. Any preconceived notions that you or I may have regarding sure things in the NFL need to be reviewed.

The Detroit Lions are no longer winless. We can no longer assume that they'll be on the losing end of each game. Admit it...part of you is very happy for them. Unless your name is Jim Zorn, how can you not be? Stafford was poised and the team deserved the win.

The old Brett Favre showed up today and the Vikings took over the 49er's in dramatic style. I said Put'em on the bench this week and I was wrong. Favre went 24 for 47 for 301 yards and two touchdowns including the final touchdown with only seconds left to steal the win. In the fantasy world, Favre has been a game manager and a 300 yard, multi-TD game seemed so far off. You could always use the word "exciting" when describing Favre's playmaking abilities and that's exactly what was on display today. I can't wait until next week!

The Bengals are for real this year. After beating the Packers last week, the Bengals focused and squeaked out a win against the Steelers. Benson looked good. Palmer looked like the pre-injury Palmer. It was a bit of a deja-vu watching him play. I was just waiting for an Ickey-shuffle. Seriously - the Bengals are on a roll.

The Denver Broncos are undefeated with.....Kyle Orton. Looks like the offseason soap opera hasn't had any negative impact on the team. This week we saw 2 big question marks turn into exclamation marks. Knowshon Moreno rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Marshall had 5 receptions for 67 yards and a TD which brought him back to fantasy relevancy. I'd tell you that their defense is 180 degrees better, but I'm going to wait on that one. They've faced Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Oakland. Wait until they face New England and San Diego. They've looked good up until now.

Last but certainly not least: All good things must come to an end. Drew Brees's phenomenal start couldn't continue, could it? Not today. Today he was ordinary throwing for 172 yards and no touchdowns.

While all of these things make me think that Hell may have frozen over, it wasn't until Terrell Owens got a goose egg that I knew it must have happened. T.O. ended his 185-game reception streak today.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go get my winter jacket.
