Best Buy Fantasy Football

Reba McEntireMove over Reba McEntire. There's a new sheriff in town. There are a ton of survivor type fantasy football games like those found at NFL.com, ESPN.com, and FantasyWorld.com. I participate in several of them because they generally are not too time-consuming and can add a little extra fun, but I gotta tell you that I really enjoy the Best Buy Fantasy game. It is perhaps one of the best ideas that I've seen come to fruition. It certainly doesn't hurt that it's run by one of my favorite retailers either!

If you're not familiar with it, each week you pick a team that you think will outscore a celebrity player. The first week was country music superstar Reba McEntire. I beat Reba by 576 points. Seriously - how cool is it to say that? Adrian Peterson and Drew Brees were the big scorers for my team that week. The other neat thing about this contest is that you get to "tag" a player and that player's points are doubled for that week. You can also create or join a group to compete head to head with family and friends. I joined a group with my grandmother and uncle which adds another element to the contest.

Paige HemmisSadly I lost to Paige Hemmis in Week 2. If her name doesn't immediately jump out at you, she's the ultra-hot carpenter/designer for the hit tv-show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I've seen the show a few times and it's always a great story. Just as the show pulls at your heart strings and does something wonderful for a deserving family, the celebs on Best Buy Fantasy get to promote their favorite charities or causes.

The only thing that cushioned my loss to Paige was the fact that she was born in Wisconsin and her favorite team is the Green Bay Packers. I always knew that we had something in common! I could have won, but Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Greg Jennings, and Reggie Wayne turned in horrible performances. Now that's a reason to have a case of the Mondays. If you don't know what that means, keep reading.

Ron LivingstonWeek 3's celebrity is Ron Livingston. His resume is long and varied but he's the star of one of my all-time favorite movies: Office Space. Seriously, who doesn't have a Lumbergh in their office? If you've ever sat in a cube, you can relate and that helped make Office Space one of the most popular cult movies of my generation. It also spawned a ton of quotes that can be applicable to most office situations.

I've never put myself in the same class as Peter Gibbons, but I had my own revelation as I set my Week 3 lineup. Why not use my own Sit/Start Rankings to help me pick my players? We'll see how that works for me this week. If I lose to Ron, I'll change my name to Michael Bolton, put on 37 pieces of flair, grab my TPS Report from the printer with the PC Load Letter error, grab my Jump to Conclusions Mat, and repeat 100 times: "I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?"

The game is free so get over there and sign up. Good luck!

MJD should provide a nice little x2 boost to my team this week. Sadly, Gore is going to kill me :(

You know...hindsight is the only perfect science. I wish I would have tagged MJD. I tagged Drew Brees and that didn't work out so well.

Good for you!

Early reports indicate Gore will be out for two weeks. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
