To Vote Or Not To Vote

It's difficult to follow along with the progress in the NFL's CBA negotiations. Where you think things stand depends entirely on what sources you read, so let's look at it through the FantasyFootballNerd.com lense.

It helps to use the Fantasy Football News section on FFN. It gives you an opportunity to glance at the headlines around the league and see for yourself some of the discord. For example, Sports Illustrated is reporting that no voting scheduled yet for Monday. FOX Sports used the same Associated Press article to highlight the fact that the NFL players committee will meet on Monday. Yahoo follows suit using the same AP article.

ESPN however says that both sides have come to a deal on all points, which was written by Adam Schefter - a source well known for being an insider.

NFL.com is reporting that both sides have made significant progress, and while they stop short of making a prediction on when the players will vote, they provide a preseason timeline based upon player ratification on Tuesday.

So what should we make of all of these reports? Well, here's what we know. The player committee members are flying into Washington, DC today for a meeting tomorrow. Yep - that's about it. That's all we know for sure.

If we take the FFN-approach and look for a consensus among these sources and others, we can conclude that a vote is quite likely to be made tomorrow with NFLPA recertification to follow next week. The league should open officially this week with free agency opening on/around next Saturday. Once free agency opens up, we are anticipating a flurry of activity and movement unlike anything the NFL has seen before.

Of course, the above timeline is subject to change.

What I can't wait for is to see how fast/much things change in the nerd's rankings once FA kicks in. There's a lot of moves that could affect a player's draft position out there.

I would anticipate quite a bit of movement (perhaps not much movement within the top 20 though).

I read that there could be up to 500 unrestricted free agents come Friday. I would anticipate a tremendous flurry of activity. This should be fun!
