B-Dubs, Games Tonight, and Tebow's Haircut

Sometimes I feel like the long lost relative who rarely writes. I'm guilty of not keeping up on writing as often as I'd like. I have thousands of thoughts that go through my head each day as I know you do as well. There have been so many times that I have said to myself "why don't I write that down?". For football-related items, there are tons of little nuggets about what's going on in the league and which sites are changing or enhancing their offerings. There are so many things that I'd like to share, however most don't warrant an entire post by themselves. So...if you'll indulge me, I'd like to spend most of my writing time this season on those random things that collectively are good things to know.

Draft season is upon us, and other than game day, I can't think of a more exciting time in fantasy football. I intend to do each of my drafts this year online, but if you're lucky enough to have your league members in close proximity, I have two suggestions for you:

Buffalo Wild Wings Fantasy Football1) Hold your draft at Buffalo Wild Wings. I ate at BWW last night and had a great time. Combine the area's best wings with big-screens, friends, fantasy football, and free Wi-Fi and I assure you that your draft party will beat the pants off mine. Seriously - how fun would that be? Contact your local B-Dubs to check on availability. You need a group of at least 8 people. B-Dubs will give you a free draft kit including $100 in gift cards for free food during a future visit, a championship pennant (I've seen them and they're very cool), the draft board, player stickers, and other BWW stuff. Very cool indeed.

2) If you plan on hosting your own draft party or need a trophy for your league, check out iwonmyleague.com. They offer some pretty cool trophies and all of the trophies are made of high quality materials which include solid maple, premium brass, and metallic finishes. If you buy there, you can take 10% off you entire order by using coupon code: AFIL2010DRAFT. The code is good through Sept. 30th.

New CBS SportsCBS Sports is getting ready to relaunch CBSSports.com. Take a look at the new site. I think it's a little more visually appealing than the current site but I've always liked the current site. They intend to offer some additional features this year like Assistant GM and Who Do I Start?. I don't have any more details on those enhancements, so shoot me an email if you hear about them before I do.

I'm excited to be a part of this year's Fantasy Expert Challenge from JunkyardJake.com. This is a solid group of fantasy football die-hards and I think it will be a great time.

Competing against me is

FantasySportsCentral.com,

FantasyFootballXtreme.com,

FantasyFootballWhiz.com,

FantasyStrategies.Com,

FootballJabber.Com,

WalterFootball.Com,

FFToolbox.com,

FantasyIndex.com,

FFJungle.com,

Fantasy Sharks Radio,

and of course, JunkyardJake.com.

Wish me luck.

You never want to see your #1 draft pick out, but it looks like Adrian Peterson will be just fine for Week 1. He did not participate in practice yesterday afternoon and may not play in the preseason opener, but as my mother always said, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Preseason games kick off tonight with New Orleans at New England, Carolina at Baltimore, and Oakland at Dallas. Bill Belichick has been mum on whether or not we'll see Wes Welker this evening. Welker, normally the equivalent of PPR-gold, is still recovering from his knee injury. I'd be surprised to see him tonight, but most folks, including me, expect him to suit up for the season opener.

There was and still is a lot of anticipation surrounding Dez Bryant. While he won't be on the field tonight, his walking boot is expected to come off on Friday. There's a very good chance that he'll be ready for Week 1, but you gotta wonder if missing all this time in camp is going to come back to haunt him. Other than the miscommunication and bad pass in the endzone, Roy Williams looked pretty good during the Hall of Fame game. Miles Austin looked to be in tune with Romo, and when you add an oustanding TE into the mix, Dez makes the field look crowded. I have low expectations for fantasy production from Bryant initially, but I sure hope to see some production as the year progresses.

Tim TebowHe hasn't played a single down in the NFL yet, but ESPN college football analyst Lee Corso is predicting that Tim Tebow will be the Broncos' starting QB before the season is over. According to an interview that Corso did with the Orlando Sentinel, he said "I think Tebow, by the sixth game, will be the quarterback. It will take some time for him to get in and do a few things, make a mistake or two, and learn from his mistakes. I think he's going to be a good quarterback."

While I think Tebow will be a good QB at some point in his career, I'm not ready to say that 2010 will be his year. FantasyFootballNerd.com has Kyle Orton ranked 27th among QB's which basically relegates him to your bench. Brady Quinn is ranked 36th and Tebow is ranked 42nd among all QB's. Could Tebow be the man in Denver? Could Tebow lead your fantasy team to victory? I put the odds at 1 in a million, and if I could do a decent Jim Carrey impersonation, I'd be saying "So...you're saying there's a chance!". Don't be Dumb and Dumber - leave Tebow on the waiver wire for now. (Love the haircut though!)

That's it for now. Enjoy the games tonight!
