Where To Draft: Brett Favre

Wednesday, Aug 11, 2010 at 12:00 pm ET

So he's retired, oh wait he's not? As of right now, this very second he's....well I don't think he even knows. But we have to consider what do in your draft if you have it today. There is no way to know if/when he will decide to come back, but my money is that he plays again.

If you still have a draft coming up you have to make a decision if you are looking at a top 10 QB. After Manning, Brees, and Rodgers are gone, there is a second tier of Brady, Schaub, Romo and Rivers who I think, if he plays, Favre belongs in. Every year for the past 5 years we've waited for him to drop off in production, and then last year happened. Regardless of his age, he still has a cannon and weapons to throw to. He can put up the numbers to be in that class...if he plays.

The Nerd has Favre ranked currently at number 13, yet last year he put up production like a top 5 QB. I don't think you can draft him as a top 5 QB again, only because he isn't officially playing yet. But I do value him higher then Eli, Cutler and Flacco who are all ranked ahead of him. So here's what my plan would be if I don't get any of the top 3 or any of the 4 in the next grouping with Favre. Draft two QB's.

Most leagues only let you play one QB at a time, however there are some that I've played in that are either 2 QB leagues or 1 QB and a flex spot that includes QB. But for standard leagues you only usually play 1. So why draft two high end QB's? Why waste a 6th round pick on Eli and then a 7th on Favre? The answer here is upside!

Tell me you wouldn't rather have Favre then Eli Manning on your team? I know I would. And in the 7th round you have to figure that you are either getting your tight end or possibly a 3rd WR or backup RB. Those are valuable positions but I am in the firm belief that after round 5, where you have most of your starters and best players taken, you draft on upside. A top 5 QB in the 7th round...now that's upside!

Don't get me wrong folks, I live in Wisconsin, but I am no Favre lover (that's Joe, not me). I have just been playing fantasy football for over 15 years and know value when I see it...that is if he plays. :)

Draft Round: 7th (possibly earlier if he confirms he comes back)

I hear you. He makes a hell of a backup QB!

After spending some time on rapiddraft in early August, I realized that he wasn't high on the experts rankings along with most other QBs. Needless to say the only thing better than grabbing Peyton Manning in the 4th was grabbing Brett Favre to back him up IN THE 12TH ROUND!

It pays to draft early!

He was my drafted backup to Joe Flacco last year in one of my leagues and soon became the starter.

Stats and performance aside, I have a superstitious reason: I win leagues when Favre is on my team.

Just picked up Favre in the 7th round of our draft, 12th QB picked. We're in MN, so I'm doubly happy if he does well.
