Off to Lambeau Field

I'll say "You're Welcome" to the Green Bay Packers a little early. I say this because my father and I are making our annual pilgrimage to the mecca of the most storied franchise in the NFL. There's nothing like gameday in Green Bay and the Packers have NEVER LOST when we've attended the game. We've been going for years and we've seen so many teams. Vikings...beat 'em. Colts...beat 'em. 49'ers...beat 'em (well, in a few hours anyway).

Not that I'm taking all the credit myself for all of those wins...OK, I'm taking *most* of the credit, but it's not just the team that wins when we're at the game. Struggling players often do well. Last year, Ryan Grant struggled and couldn't find his way into the endzone until Week 7. So what influence did I have? The Pack won and Grant hits 105 with a TD. I think I'll let the numbers speak for themselves.

Gameday is special for all NFL fans, but the reason Green Bay is so unique is because it's one of the smallest markets in the NFL and the team is larger than life in the state. During the game, there's never a traffic problem in Green Bay or the surrounding cities. Why? The majority of the state is either at Lambeau or glued to their TV watching the game. Some people use gameday to go shopping. The stores are less crowded and there's never a problem finding a parking spot. It's a win-win for everyone.

The Packers are also publicly owned. There is no Jerry Jones in Green Bay. The fans own the Packers. More than 4.7 million shares are owned by more than 112,000 people. Shareholders get NO voting rights, NO dividends, and their shares can never appreciate. I think that speaks volumes. Want to sell some shares? No problem. Shares often sell fan-to-fan for more than their value.

So, I'll be looking forward to brats, beer, and spending time with thousands of my fellow cheeseheads as we shut down Frank Gore and the 49ers. Gotta love it.

I'll also be starting all of my Packers today!
