Blackmon's home run was his sixth of the year and second in as many days. He hit a two-run shot off Christian Scott in the fifth inning. Blackmon is hitting .259 with a .745 OPS and 32 RBI on the season.
Scott gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out five. Scott started the fifth inning with a 4-1 lead, but allowed a two-run home run to Charlie Blackmon, a double to Ezequiel Tovar and walked Ryan McMahon before he was removed. He's still looking for his first major league win. Scott will take a 4.36 ERA into the All-Star break.
Never without drama, Diaz set down the first two Rockies hitters in the ninth before walking Sam Hilliard on three pitches. Then, Hilliard stole second and Diaz eventually walked Charlie Blackmon before punching out Ezequiel Tovar. It simply has not been easy for Diaz in his first season back from tearing his patellar tendon.
The 38-year-old missed each of the team's last three games due to a tight hamstring. Even with left-hander Sean Manaea toeing the slab for the Mets on Friday night, Rockies' skipper Bud Black wanted to get Blackmon back in the lineup when he was healthy enough to do so. He'll hit out of his customary leadoff spot while functioning as the team's designated hitter on Friday.
Blackmon (hamstring) is the DH and batting leadoff Friday against the Mets.
