The ScoreRed-hot Yankees to get early jump on struggling Marlins

Find year-round coverage of betting news and insights for all sports by visiting our Betting section and subscribing to push notifications. We swept the board on the diamond Monday night, cashing both pitching props and our first-five bet on Arizona. We'll look to pick up where we left off with three plays for Tuesday's card.Marlins (+170) @ Yankees (-200)The Marlins are off to a miserable 1-10 start, and it's unlikely to get any better against the Yankees.Taking the bump will be A.J. Puk. He's struggled through two starts, lasting only six innings while walking more batters (nine) than he has struck out (six). That doesn't set him up for success against anybody, let alone these Yankees. They're powerful and have excellent plate discipline. If opposing pitchers aren't hitting their spots, Juan Soto and Co. are happy to sit idly and take the free bases. The Yankees are hitting just below .290 against left-handed pitchers and drawing walks almost 15% of the time. They should flood the basepaths against Puk and have no problem cashing in with early runs.It will be difficult for the Marlins' offense to keep up. They are hitting only .180 versus lefties and will see a good one in Carlos Rod n. He has made two starts this season, allowing only three earned runs in nearly 10 innings despite facing good offenses in the Astros and Diamondbacks. The Marlins are a massive step down in class.Look for the Yankees to get on the board early and lead through the first five innings.Bet: Yankees F5 -0.5 (-125)Zack Wheeler: Over 6.5 strikeoutsWheeler is a man on a mission to start the year. He has piled up 15 strikeouts through two appearances, which is impressive given one of those games came against the Braves' lethal attack.Including balls where contact was made, more than 70% of Wheeler's pitches have gone for strikes. He has also induced swinging strikes at a 20% clip, nearly 8% above the MLB average. His pitching profile is littered with positive signs. The Phillies hurler has a very enticing matchup Tuesday. The Cardinals have struck out in 26.9% of 316 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers. Only four teams have fared worse.St. Louis has swung at a high percentage of pitches and posted subpar contact rates. That is a recipe for disaster against someone like Wheeler. For perspective, No. 5 starter Spencer Turnbull piled up six strikeouts against the Cardinals. There's no reason an in-form ace like Wheeler can't tack on one more.Odds: -135 (playable to -150)Logan Allen: Under 1.5 walksAllen struggled with walks a season ago, issuing two or more free passes in 18 of 26 starts - just under 70% of the time. However, it appears Allen has addressed his control issues. He has walked three of 47 batters thus far, a 6.4% walk rate, which is much lower than a year ago and better than the MLB average. The Guardians southpaw is throwing balls just 32% of the time and a lot of balls are being put in play, which helps keep the walks down.A date with the White Sox should help the cause. They rank dead last in batting average and K% and 27th in BB% against left-handed arms. They didn't have a good offense to begin with, and injuries to key bats like Luis Robert and Eloy Jim nez only make matters worse.Allen shouldn't have much trouble with this lineup.Odds: +100Todd Cordell is a sports betting writer at theScore.
