The Detroit Tigers are moving veteran right-hander Kenta Maeda to the bullpen for the foreseeable future, manager A.J. Hinch announced Thursday, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck.Maeda has struggled this season, posting a 2-5 record with a 7.26 ERA, a 1.58 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings (16 starts). The Tigers signed Maeda to a two-year, $24-million contract in the offseason.The 36-year-old doesn't have much experience pitching out of the bullpen during his eight-year MLB career, making just 35 relief appearances and only one since the 2019 campaign.Maeda's struggles intensified in July as he allowed 15 runs in 6 1/3 innings for a 21.32 ERA across two starts.The Tigers plan to deploy a bullpen game when Maeda's turn in the rotation comes up Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Copyright © 2024 Score Media Ventures Inc.
