Trevor Larnach hit a three-run homer, Joey Gallo homered for the second straight game and Louie Varland pitched 6 1/3 solid innings for the Minnesota Twins in a 16-3 win against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
Minnesota Twins right-hander Tyler Mahle will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, manager Rocco Baldelli said Thursday, according to MLB.com's Do-Hyoung Park.Mahle was placed on the injured list at the end of April with a posterior impingement and flexor pronator strain in his pitching elbow.The Twins acquired Mahle in a deal with the Cincinnati Reds at last season's trade deadline. The 28-year-old is scheduled to reach free agency at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign.Mahle was off to a strong start this season, registering a 3.16 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 28 strikeouts across 25 2/3 innings.The Twins are also without the services of Kenta Maeda in the starting rotation. Maeda is on the injured list with a strained right triceps.
