All told, the 28-year-old hurler gave up six runs on seven hits over his five frames while striking out a pair of batters. After being staked to an early 2-0 lead, Crawford served up a solo homer to Freddie Freeman in the opening inning and then an RBI double to Gavin Lux. He would allow solo shots to Teoscar Hernandez, Gavin Lux, Austin Barnes and Shohei Ohtani before all was said and done. Crawford got nine whiffs on 77 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 23 percent. He'll attempt to bounce back as he carries a 3.37 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 112/29 K/BB ratio (117 2/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Yankees on Saturday.
Lux smacked a game-tying RBI double off of Kutter Crawford in the home half of the first inning. He then tagged Crawford for a 379-foot solo shot in the fourth that extended the Dodgers' lead to 4-2. He then lined a two-out single into left off of Kenley Jansen in the eighth inning, swiped second base and raced around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Cavan Biggio. With his three-hit attack, Lux is now hitting .225/.276/.333 with five homers, 27 RBI and four stolen bases.
Barnes, who was giving Will Smith a breather in this one, belted a 399-foot (98.6-mph EV) leadoff homer off of Kutter Crawford to open the fifth inning -- the fourth of five home runs that the Dodgers would hit off of the Red Sox' right-hander. The 34-year-old backstop finished the night 1-for-3 and is now hitting .261/.330/.318 with one homer and seven RBI on the season.
Ohtani absolutely pulverized a 2-1 cutter from Kutter Crawford for a 473-foot (116.7-mph EV) solo shot in the fifth inning that increased the Dodgers' lead to 6-2. It was the fifth and final home run that the Dodgers hit off of Crawford in the contest. Ohtani also walked and struck out in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-3. On the season, he's slashing a ridiculous .315/.401/.638 with the aforementioned 30 long balls, 70 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Simply staggering offensive production across the board.
It looks to be nothing more than a routine night off for the hard-hitting backstop. Austin Barnes will start in his place behind the dish and will bat ninth against Kutter Crawford and the Red Sox on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.
