Hinds has played outfield for his entire minor league career, apart from nine games at third base during his first professional season. The Reds have plenty of outfield options, so Hinds being able to play first base would give him a little more security on the roster, especially with Jeimer Candelario and Christian Encarnacion-Strand both banged up and struggling. Hinds is 6'4", 215 pounds, so he certainly makes for a big enough target at the position.

Hinds is just 3-for-17 since his callup, but all of his hits have gone for extra bases. Unfortunately, he has struck out nine times, and he's mostly taking a seat right now with Will Benson on a roll. Hinds will likely be sent down when Jake Fraley is activated.

The Reds got all of their runs in the first three innings and then held on as the Guardians scored in the fourth, fifth and eighth. Benson's homer started the scoring in the second, as he took an awful Tanner Bibee slider 361 feet to right field. He also homered and knocked in three runs Thursday against the White Sox, and he's 7-for-18 with a 2/3 K/BB ratio in six games since being recalled last week. He'll stay in the lineup until he coola off, and he'll probably remain on the roster over Rece Hinds once Jake Fraley comes off the injured list.

Fraley has been dealing with tenderness in his left calf, and he'll miss another game while recovering. Rece Hinds will get the start in left field while Fraley gets better.

The Reds announced that infielder Noelvi Mart has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 5th, due to a left oblique strain. Outfielder Rece Hinds has been recalled to take his spot on the active roster. Mart was scratched from yesterday’s game due to left side pain. It appears that testing done…
