Gore gave up two hits, walked four and struck out two. This was Gore's third start in a row where he failed to complete five innings. He had walked at least three batters in a start three times in his first 17 starts of the season, but has now walked at least three batters in each of his last three starts. It's only three bad starts, but the control is certainly becoming an issue. Gore has a 4.20 ERA on the season. The 25-year-old left-hander is set to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.
Gore will now have his start pushed back to Saturday with Jake Irvin going on Sunday, which means Mitchell Parker will be bumped into next week's series against the Padres.
With the score tied at 0-0, Nimmo opened the floodgates with a three-run double off MacKenzie Gore to make it 3-0, and that was all the offense the Mets would need. They scored four more runs, anyway, but still true. Nimmo is already up to 62 RBI on the season, and is enjoying a solid first half of 2024 with a line of .252/.365/.466.
Gore was going to have to be at his best to match David Peterson, but he wasn't close to it. The southpaw issues three walks and threw just 59-of-95 pitches for strikes before exiting in the fifth. The 25-year-old has scuffled over his last two outings to see an ERA of 3.47 jump up to 4.01. There was more good than bad from Gore in the first half, but there's still work to be done before he's ready to be a frontline hurler.
Taylor remains in the lineup with the Mets facing another left-handed pitcher in MacKenzie Gore. After the injury to Starling Marte, the Mets have gone with a platoon in right field that features Taylor against lefties and DJ Stewart against righties. That's unlikely to change unless the Mets make a move at the trade deadline.
