Wagoner prefaced the statement by revealing that in the first meeting between 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and Evans, "Shanahan laid out the plan for how he will be incorporated into an offense that also includes" RB Christian McCaffrey, TE George Kittle and QB Brock Purdy. McCaffrey's 95 red zone touches in the 2025 regular season led all 49ers players by 79 and all other NFL players by 21. Knowing that Shanahan is already scheming up red zone opportunities for Evans is great to hear. McCaffrey can also lose a few red zone touches and still remain an elite RB1. There should be more than enough opportunities in scoring position for both players to feast. Evans currently projects as a WR2 with double-digit touchdown upside.

Robinson's free agency has been slow to this point in the legal tampering cycle, but he figures to be involved in a few places. We wouldn't be surprised if he wanted a bigger opportunity than he figures to get behind Christian McCaffrey. He didn't crack 10 carries in a single game with the 49ers after coming over in a trade before the season.

McCaffrey is a former undrafted free agent NFL wide receiver who spent time with five different NFL teams. He joined the college coaching ranks as a wide receivers coach at Northern Colorado in 2020. He added offensive coordinator to his title in 2021 and held both roles for two seasons. McCaffrey joined the NFL coaching ranks as a member of former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel's coaching staff in 2023, serving as an offensive assistant through the 2025 season. McCaffrey's new role reunites him with McDaniel, who was hired as the Chargers' offensive coordinator in January. 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey and Commanders WR Luke McCaffrey are Max's younger brothers.
