Fant's 2024 fantasy revival has so far failed to launch with just three receptions for 25 yards through two games. That's despite the fact that Geno Smith dropped back 47 times in Boston. Fant should still end up producing some TE2 days, but it is looking harder than expected behind the elite receiver trio of DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett. Week 3 against the Dolphins does at least profiles a a positive offensive environment.
All of Lockett's positive yardage came in overtime, where he also drew a 20-yard DPI he evidently admitted to Patriots CB Jonathan Jones "wasn't a penalty." Tough scene. It has been the tale of two weeks for Lockett, who had a 7/79 Week 1 only to watch DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba both clear 10 receptions in Boston. We would expect this week to be closer to the norm, though that's obviously something of a guess. Lockett will have some WR4 upside against the Dolphins' leaky defense in Week 3, especially since he's unlikely to be Jalen Ramsey's focal point.
It was a monster day for Metcalf, who set the tone with a 56-yard first quarter score where he took advantage of a Pats coverage mixup to rampage down the left sideline. Beyond that were several of Metcalf's patented tough chain-movers. He also had a few drops, but who is keeping count. Metcalf's monster day came as Jaxon Smith-Njigba also cleared 10 grabs and 100 yards. Tyler Lockett could manage just 2/15. Perhaps the guard finally is changing in this receiver corps, but Lockett had a productive Week 1. Metcalf's strong start to the season will be tested in Week 3 against Jalen Ramsey's Dolphins.
Lockett (thigh) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at New England, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Lockett was limited in last week's practice and played through the questionable tag in Week 1. The thigh injury hardly seemed to be a factor and though he starts out Week 2 limited, expect him to be ready to play the Patriots as a fantasy WR3/4.
