2022 Season Outlooks

Gordon returned to Denver this season, and he should compete with Javonte Williams for touches. We like Williams better, but Gordon can still be used as a low-end starter or flex in the majority of leagues. Gordon is worth drafting with a mid-round pick. In 2021, Gordon and Williams split work evenly, and Gordon averaged 12.1 PPR points per game. He had six games with at least 15 PPR points, and he still has plenty of potential with the Broncos, even if he takes a slightly secondary role this year behind Williams. And if Williams were to miss any time due to injury, Gordon would be a weekly starter in all formats. Gordon is a great running back to stash on your bench this season or use as a low-end starter in deeper formats.
Gordon played well from a real-life perspective last season – even better than backfield mate Javonte Williams by a lot of metrics. And he scored as an upper-end RB2 for fantasy squads. Williams is an ascending 22-year-old, though. And Denver let 29-year-old Gordon toil on the open market for over a month before bringing him back on a cheap, 1-year deal. So we’re expecting Williams to claim a bigger piece of this backfield pie this season. We’ll see exactly how big – and whether there’s enough left behind for Gordon to still be a fantasy starter.
Gordon re-signed with Denver after a successful 2021 with the team. The veteran back is one of 11 players in NFL history with at least nine TDs in six straight seasons and one of 11 players in NFL history with zero TDs on 200-plus touches in a single season. How's that for an incredible stat? Gordon has found the end zone 67 times over the last six seasons after going scoreless as a rookie in 2015. He split backfield duties with Javonte Williams in Denver last season and posted a career-best 2.2 YAC, which was in the 80th percentile among backs. Despite the impressive season, Gordon hasn't had a top-12 fantasy campaign since 2018 and is now 29 years old. He's a strong bet to defer more work to Williams and figures to cap out as a pedestrian flex option, though he does have elite insurance value.
