Devaughn Vele caught 3-of-5 targets for 40 yards in the Saints' Week 14 win over the Bucs.Vele's 40 yards were a far cry from his shocking Week 13 total of 93, but he actually led the team as Tyler Shough attempted only 20 passes in rainy conditions. One of Vele's grabs was a huge late third-down conversion. Having now easily consolidated Rashid Shaheed's vacated targets in this high-attempts offense, Vele is displaying some WR4 juice. It's just so hard to tiebreak in favor of a Saint with bye weeks over and the fantasy playoffs beginning. Despite an improving Tyler Shough, this is not the greatest of fantasy environments.
Juwan Johnson caught 5-of-9 targets for 39 yards in the Saints' Week 13 loss to the Dolphins. It was business as usual for Johnson, who has at least four catches in three-of-four Tyler Shough starts. He scored in Shough's first two starts but has since run dry in that department. That is to be expected with Shough taking his lumps on a week-to-week basis. Johnson led the Saints in targets this week, though Devaughn Vele paced the team in catches and yards. Johnson will remain a low-end TE1 for his Week 14 matchup with the Bucs.
Chris Olave caught 4-of-7 targets for 47 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 13 loss to the Dolphins.Olave entered Sunday listed as questionable because of back spasms. He moved well and earned plenty of targets, but the fact that Devaughn Vele led the team in all receiving categories could point to the back injury being a minor issue for Olave in this contest. Olave could have made up some ground on Vele late in the game had he brought down a game-winning score. Tyler Shough put the ball on the money on a deep shot to Olave during the Saints' final drive. Navigating two defenders near the end zone, Olave let the ball slip between his hands, blowing a chance at the win. It was a frustrating end to a floor performance from the young wideout. He will remain in the WR2 ranks when the Saints take on the Bucs.
Devaughn Vele: Hauls in eight catches SundayVele gathered in all eight targets for 93 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 21-17 defeat against the Dolphins.
Devaughn Vele caught all eight of his targets for 93 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 13 loss to the Dolphins.Vele also recovered an onside kick late in the fourth quarter to keep hope alive for the Saints. They would eventually fail to convert a quarterback sneak on fourth down, putting their comeback effort to bed. Chris Olave dealt with back spasms in practice this week. He was listed as questionable heading into today's game. Olave suited up but posted a quiet box score outside of a touchdown, catching just four passes. The back issue likely forced the Saints to lean on Vele--normally their No. 2 receiver--in this game. Olave should be healthier next week, putting Vele's ceiling somewhere around the WR4/5 border versus the Bucs.
