Jets RB Breece Hall (knee) missed his second straight practice on Thursday. That's a downgrade from last week, when Hall was limited on Thursday. He's not a lock to play vs. the Dolphins this weekend. Hall's absence would leave Braelon Allen as the Jets' likely lead back, with Isaiah Davis as the No. 2. Check back tomorrow for another update on Hall.
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said it was too early to determine if Hall would suit up on Sunday. Hall missed last Wednesday's session as well but managed to suit up on Sunday after a pair of limited practices. He told reporters on Friday that he was "not sore or anything", though it didn't look that way on the field. Hall was off the field more than usual and did not catch a pass for the first time this year. He only carries the ball 12 times in a loss to Seattle. With the Jets all but mathematically eliminated from the playoff hunt, it would make sense for the team to start taking it easy with their superstar players, including Hall. Braelon Allen would see the bulk of the work if he misses any time, though third-stringer Isaiah Davis would also earn some touches.
Even with Breece Hall banged up with a knee issue that necessitated some trips to the sidelines, Allen remained stuck in his usual workload zone because of the increased involvement of fellow rookie RB Isaiah Davis. Davis' sudden involvement suggests Allen maybe wouldn't have the Jets' backfield all to himself, after all, in the event Hall actually missed time. With Hall seemingly likely to suit up for Week 14 against the Dolphins, Allen remains a strict contingency back.
For some reason targeted only one time, Hall caught zero passes for the first time all year. Entering width a knee injury, Hall was in and out of the game after seeming to re-tweak it. He ceded snaps both early and late to fifth-round rookie Isaiah Davis, to say nothing of Braelon Allen. Allen out-touched Davis 7-4, and out-targeted Hall. Weird stuff. Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, played worse than ever, leading to post-game questions of whether Gang Green is considering cutting ties. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said "not as of today." Alrighty then. Banged up in a miserable offense, Hall is looking like an RB2 for Week 14 against the Dolphins even with six teams on bye.
Hall missed Wednesday's practice with the knee issue but returned for a limited session on Thursday. He was spotted at the start of Friday's practice for what is likely another limited workload. It sounds like Hall will still be listed as questionable on the Jets' final injury report. Barring any setbacks over the weekend, we expect the star running back to suit up on Sunday. Braelon Allen could be used as more than just a breather back with Hall playing hurt, but fantasy managers should keep the latter in their lineups as a low-end RB1 if he's active.
