The Panthers got blown out by the Commanders on Sunday, but they didn't use the 40-7 loss as a chance to get quarterback Bryce Young some playing time in place of the struggling Andy Dalton.
Johnson's first reception came on the Panthers' first offensive drive, which ended in a pick six by Andy Dalton. It was the worst fantasy outing of the season for Johnson with Dalton under center, but things aren't likely to get any better in Week 8. The Panthers face a Broncos defense that's allowing just 15.1 points per game and that has held their opponents under 200 passing yards in five of their seven games. Johnson will be hard to trust as anything more than a WR3 in what profiles as a tough outing on paper.
Dalton was brutal in Sunday's loss to the Commanders, throwing for 99 yards on 16 pass attempts while also drawing two picks. Despite his struggles, Canales continues to believe Dalton gives the Panthers the best chance to win -- which doesn't come as much of a surprise considering what we've seen from Bryce Young over the last year and a half. Dalton now finds himself in the unenviable position of starting Week 8 against a stout Broncos defense.
The Panthers got off to a strong start, totaling 61 yards on their opening drive before an interception by Dalton on a screen pass turned into a pick six for the Commanders. Things only got worse from there. Dalton threw a second interception on his third drive of the game, and was limited to short passes all day while facing repeated pressure from the Commanders' front seven. Dalton lead the Panthers on a scoring drive early in the fourth quarter to squash any hopes of a shutout the Commanders may have had, but he and the offense were brutal throughout this one. Fantasy managers will want to consider sitting most of their Panthers in Week 8 against the Broncos.
The Panthers' opening drive in Washington looked like it would end in points as they moved closer to the Commanders' end zone, but the first score of the game wound up belonging to the home team.
