2023 Season Outlooks

Hardman left the Chiefs this offseason to join Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. While he still gets to play with a great quarterback, he faces a bigger challenge when it comes to earning targets. The Jets already have Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis on the roster and they also added Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard, who played with Rodgers last year. For the time being, project Hardman as a role player who can largely be ignored in Fantasy leagues. But if he earns a full-time slot role, that could change. The one place Hardman should definitely be drafted is in leagues that reward points for return yards, as he should return punts and kickoffs for the Jets.

Hardman failed to deliver on his Round 2 draft capital in Kansas City – even in 2022 with WR Tyreek Hill gone.

Landing with QB Aaron Rodgers keeps Hardman’s deep-league value afloat. But he’s likely ticketed for the No. 3 or 4 role in the offense.

The 25-year-old is primarily a best ball flier.

What We Learned Last YearIn a contract year in Kansas City, Hardman posted a 25-297-3 receiving line in eight games. He added two rushing scores. The bulk of his fantasy production came in a Week 7 win over San Francisco: 4 catches, 32 yards 1 score, plus 2 rushes, 28 yards, and 2 additional scores.Despite playing without WR Tyreek Hill, Hardman remained a role player. He topped six targets only once in nine appearances (including playoffs).Hardman missed seven games with a groin injury that required February surgery. This marked his first missed action in the NFL.
What to Expect in 2023The Jets signed Hardman to a one-year deal with a relatively low $3 million guaranteed.ESPN’s Rich Cimini said the Jets believe he has “untapped ability on intermediate routes.” An expanded route tree wasn’t something we saw in Kansas City. Hardman will compete with Corey Davis for the No. 3 role behind target hog Garrett Wilson and former Packer Allen Lazard.Hardman will play under new OC Nathaniel Hackett, who spent three years with new Jet Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.Rodgers’ play dipped last year following back-to-back MVPs. Rodgers did play through an early-season thumb fracture. Our belief is that he’ll rebound in New York with a better supporting cast.

Hardman signed with the Jets after spending his first four seasons with the Chiefs. Despite his second-round pedigree and the Chiefs' pass-heavy, high-scoring offense, Hardman has yet to emerge as a reliable fantasy option. He peaked in target share (13%), yardage (739) and fantasy finish (48th) in 2021 and has yet to clear six TDs in a single season. Hardman scored six TDs in eight full games last season, but he was playing half the snaps and averaging 3.6 touches per game. The 26-year-old joins what has the potential to be a good offense with Aaron Rodgers under center, but he'll file in behind at least Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard and is thus a long shot for weekly flex value. Hardman is barely worth late-round flier consideration.
