The Colts have placed cornerback Charvarius Ward on IR and announced the signing of quarterback Philip Rivers to their practice squad. The team also signed quarterback Brett Rypien and kicker Blake Grupe from its practice squad to its 53-man roster. More to come…

The Indianapolis Colts have signed veteran QB Philip Rivers to their practice squad. With QB Riley Leonard week-to-week with a knee injury, Rivers bolsters the QB depth in case he is needed. He will compete with QB Brett Rypien, also on the practice squad, for the back-up job. But, it isn t out of the question for Rivers to start at some point with the Colts trying to claw their way into the playoffs.

Leonard has a knee injury that was diagnosed after the game that Steichen said he is "working through." He played to the very end of the Colts snaps against the Jaguars, so either he played on it or injured it on his final run to the end zone. The lone remaining quarterback on the roster is, you guessed it, Brett Rypien. We'll probably get a better sense of how much urgency the Colts have based on how many quarterback workouts get scheduled this week, but this is getting dire in a hurry.
