2022 Season Outlooks

Goedert is a mid-range No. 1 tight end with top-five upside who should be drafted as early as Round 8 in PPR leagues. Goedert finally shed Zach Ertz last year and then ran into some terrible touchdown luck. In 10 games without Ertz, Goedert averaged four catches and 61 yards but only scored twice in those 10 games. If he can maintain the target volume he saw at the end of 2021, he'll almost certainly be better for Fantasy purposes, but A.J. Brown could make it difficult for him to maintain that volume.
The Eagles are a near-lock to throw more in 2022 after leading the league in run-heaviness last season. Just how much they swing back in that direction will be a mystery until after the games start. But the big investment in A.J. Brown gives reason to believe a significant swing. And 2021 actually gave us nearly as much time with a pass-leaning Philly offense (8th in neutral pass rate through 7 weeks) as run-heavy (5th in neutral run rate the rest of the way). Because he plays TE, Goedert doesn’t need quite as much target volume as his WR teammates to deliver high-end fantasy production. His efficiency has been good. His QB is a reasonable bet for improvement in just his 2nd full season as the starter. And having Brown plus DeVonta Smith to distract defenses can only make it easier for Goedert to find space. It’s not hard to see top-5 fantasy upside for Goedert, and his ADP doesn’t want to climb higher than TE8 across draft formats and sites. He’s a “buy” on our board.
For the first time in his career, Goedert is entering a season as a clear No. 1 tight end. Last season, Goedert played nine "full" games after longtime teammate Zach Ertz was traded. During that span, Goedert handled a massive 26% target share (6.1 per game) and was sixth at tight end in fantasy PPG (12.4). He has yet to clear five TDs in a single season, but he's been top 12 in fantasy PPG each of the last three seasons. The Eagles operate a run-heavy offense, but Goedert should be a clear third in target priority behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The 27-year-old is a mid-to-back-end TE1.
The Zach Ertz era finally ended last season, although it took a few months longer than expected. Most expected Ertz to be traded during the preseason, but he broke camp with the team and was on the field more than 60% of the time through six games. But Howie Roseman finally sent Ertz to Arizona, giving Dallas Goedert the keys to the starting role. In four seasons, Goedert has been good, not great. Despite excellent size (6-foot-5, 256 pounds) and compelling measurables, Goedert rarely breaks big plays. But, he's reliable (71% catch rate) and hard to jam coming off the line. Although he's not a dominant blocker, he's gotten better and can now stay on the field in any game script.
