George (knee) will get an MRI on Friday, but the Jazz are optimistic that the injury will not prevent him from playing in the regular-season opener against the Grizzlies on Oct. 23, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.
George has been ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's preseason game against the Mavericks due to a mild left knee sprain, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports. He'll end the night with 14 points (5-10 FG, 4-5 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal in 17 minutes.
George attempted a crossover when his right foot slipped, causing a knee injury. While being helped off the court, he could not put any weight on his leg and will not return to Thursday's exhibition. A potential extended absence for George would impact the entire Jazz rotation, with Collin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, and Isaiah Collier becoming more critical options on the perimeter.
George injured his knee during the third quarter of Thursday's exhibition win over Dallas and could not put any weight on his leg while being helped off the court. However, the initial diagnosis of a mild sprain has sparked optimism within the organization, with George scheduled to undergo an MRI on Friday. While Collin Sexton should already be selected in league drafts, rookie Isaiah Collier would be worth a roll of the dice if George's injury is more problematic than the Jazz reportedly believe.
