Due to the ankle injury, Kleber did not play in any of Dallas' preseason games. The veteran participating in practice is a positive development; time is on his (and the Mavericks') time. Dallas won't play its season opener until October 24, so there will be time for Kleber to go through his paces and work off the rust. However, unless Daniel Gafford or Dereck Lively II were to suffer an injury, Kleber wouldn't have much room to impact fantasy basketball.
Gafford will start in Thursday's preseason game against the Bucks, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
With Alperen Sengun (12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes) firmly entrenched as the starting center, there isn't much room for Adams to add value in fantasy basketball. This isn't a timeshare similar to Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II in Dallas, so it's more likely that Adams remains a streamer for managers needed rebounding production.
Fantasy managers can breathe easy. After coming off the bench on Monday, Lively started ahead of Daniel Gafford against the Jazz. Gafford (15 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, and three blocks) was more productive against Utah, with both Mavericks big men playing 18 minutes. Lively may offer a higher long-term ceiling, but he'll likely have to deal with a timeshare (as was the case during Dallas' run to the NBA Finals last season).
Lively came off the bench, which isn't what fantasy managers want to see at this point. However, he still played a large role and made a significant impact. He even went coast-to-coast for a layup, which was fun to see from the big man. Lively still has loads of untapped potential, and he still may be able to beat out Daniel Gafford for the starting job. Lively is a high upside pick in the middle to late rounds.
