'You gotta play harder than everybody else': How small guards are making it in an increasingly tall NBADavion Mitchell, Jamal Shead and Collin Gillespie -- all 6-foot-1 and under -- are providing the blueprint for today's short kings
Jamal Shead started on Tuesday and contributed 18 points (6-of-15 FGs), three rebounds, seven assists, one steal and four three-pointers against the Knicks. With Immanuel Quickley (illness) sidelined, Shead got the starting nod for the first time this season. In the increased opportunity, Shead was able to set a new season high for scoring and reached eight assists for the fifth time this season. Shead is more than capable of making an impact in fantasy basketball when he gets the chance to start, but it is unlikely that Quickley remains sidelined until Monday's game against the Heat.
Jamal Shead: Starting Tuesday sans QuickleyShead is in the Raptors' starting lineup for Tuesday's NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Knicks, Esfandiar Baraheni of The Athletic reports.
Jamal Shead, Ochai Agbaji, Brandon Ingram, Scottie Barnes and Jakob Poeltl will start against the Knicks on Tuesday.Shead will start for the first time this season in place of Immanuel Quickley, who is sidelined with an illness. Agbaji, who scored a season-high 11 points off the bench on Sunday, will replace Ja'Kobe Walter in the starting lineup. Walter had been starting in place of RJ Barrett, so Agbaji could maintain that role moving forward.
Immanuel Quickley (illness) has been ruled out against the Knicks on Tuesday.Quickley was able to play through an illness on Sunday, but it will keep him on the sidelines against New York in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup, Jamal Shead, who is available after being listed as questionable with a quad injury, should start in his stead.
