Ronald Acuna Jr. had 23 homers and 49 steals through 101 games last year on his way to a 40/70 season. De La Cruz is at 18 homers and 51 steals through 101 games this year. He also has his average up to .262, which is the highest it's been since May 21. He was down in the .230s for a time in June, but he's come in at .336 in his last 26 games.
It's been a rough month of July for Olson, who came into today hitting 7-for-62 (.113) in 17 games coming into today. His pull rates have been down from what we're used to seeing and his 50 percent groundball rate is almost 13 percent above his career average. That may have a lot to do with why we're not seeing the power output from Olson, but with Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, and Michael Harris II not in the lineup, pitchers can afford to pitch around Olson more.
Oof. It's another brutal blow to the Braves, who have already lost Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season and have been without outfielder Michael Harris II for a substantial amount of time as well. It seems unlikely that they're going to roll with Zack Short at second base for an extended period of time, so it's possible that Nacho Alvarez could be an option, or the Braves could be active once again on the trade front to fill the new void in their lineup. For fantasy managers in redraft leagues -- without IL spots -- Albies makes for a very difficult hold if he isn't going to return until late September.
