Arraez singled for all three knocks. One of those hits drove in a run off Logan Webb to make it a 4-3 game, but the Padres would get no closer. The .313 average for Arraez is a bit lower than his .322 career mark, but there aren't any batters more likely to help in the average category than Arraez across the sport.
Arraez kicked off the scoring with a run-scoring single to right field in the third inning before tacking on a key insurance run with an eight-inning single to center field. He also picked up his eighth stolen base of the season in this one. The 27-year-old contact-oriented infielder, who has been playing through a torn ligament in his left thumb, is still hitting for a strong batting average, but doesn't bring much else to the table from a fantasy standpoint.
No reason was given for the absence, but the 27-year-old is still requiring regular maintenance days due to the thumb injury that he is playing through. Jake Cronenworth will start at first base for the Padres on Friday evening while Manny Machado functions as the Padres' designated hitter.
This was a vintage Arraez game with four five balls in play, one traveling more than 220 feet, none being hit harder than 100 MPH, and four hits to show for it. He hasn't done much besides provide fantastic batting average this season and continues to be one of the most fascinating players in fantasy baseball.
Mikolas retired the side in order in the first inning, but was taken deep by Manny Machado to kick off the second inning. Mikolas allowed a double to Jackson Merrill two batters later, and saw Merrill come around to score after Luis Campusano singled with one out to tie the game at 2-2. Unfortunately for Mikolas, the damage didn't stop there, as Mason McCoy and Luis Arraez would both drive in runs before the inning was over, putting the Cardinals in a 4-2 hole after two innings. Mikolas would be pulled after retiring the first two batters he faced in the sixth inning, and has now allowed four or more earned runs in four of his five starts this month. He'll look to get off to a stronger start in September when he takes on the Yankees on Sunday.
