It's a rare off day for Candelario, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI during Monday's series opener at Truist Park. It's the first time he's been out of the lineup since June 29, despite the fact he's been playing through some lingering right knee tendinitis this season. It'll be Santiago Espinal taking a turn at designated hitter in his absence.
Candelario is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta.
De La Cruz was at the epicenter of Cincinnati's offensive production in this one, coming around to score on Jeimer Candelario's first-inning sacrifice fly shortly after smacking a one-out triple off Braves starter Reynaldo Lopez. He also delivered a two-out single and raced around the bases to score on Candelario's third-inning double before drawing a walk and stealing his 49th base of the year a couple frames later. The 22-year-old speedster is the most electrifying hitter in the game at the moment and has a realistic shot at winding up somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 stolen bases.
The Reds were hopeless for most of this game against Tarik Skubal and Candelario accounted for one of their three hits off him and the only run batted in. Candelario has managed to keep himself above water with 14 homers and a .749 OPS in what was meant to be a very crowded infield mix for the Reds.
