A tale of two pitchersLanden Roupp shined; Carson Whisenhunt, not so much.
Landen Roupp fired two scoreless innings on Monday against the White Sox.Roupp appears to have a firm grip on the fifth spot in San Francisco's rotation after accumulating a career-high 106 2/3 innings over 22 starts last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury in late August. The 27-year-old righty will need to miss a few more bats in order to be a relevant mixed-league contributor but he's a name to watch on the early-season waiver wire for matchup purposes in deeper formats.
Blade Tidwell was hit hard in Thursday's Cactus League start against the Rockies, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in his two innings of work.On the plus side, the 24-year-old right-hander struck out two in the contest and didn't issue a free pass. He retired the side in order in the first inning, but ran into trouble in the second as Jordan Beck drew a leadoff walk, Kyle Karros followed with an RBI triple and Charlie Condon plated him with an RBI single. Tidwell regained his composure to retire the next three in order, but the damage had been done. He's competing with Landen Roupp, Carson Whisenhunt and Hayden Birdsong for the final spot in the Giants' Opening Day rotation.
