Bowden claims the Phillies "have been linked to Luis Robert Jr. of the White Sox, Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Marlins, Cody Bellinger of the Cubs, Jake McCarthy of the Diamondbacks, and Jacob Young of the Nationals, among others." McCarthy and Young would likely cost the least to acquire, but the Marlins have expressed a willingness to deal Chisholm during his first fully healthy season, so the Phillies could look to gamble there. Bowden believes it would be "surprising" if the Phillies didn't land a new centerfielder at the deadline.
Diaz had no business being in this game, but Adam Ottavino and Reed Garrett each gave up a two-run homer to put the Nationals back in this game. There was also a strange play in Diaz's four pitches of work where Francisco Alvarez lost a slider behind him and allowed Jacob Young to score from second base on the wild pitch. Still, it was nice to see Diaz lock this one down and make CJ Abrams look foolish in the process.
