O'Neill is coming off a huge game on Tuesday with two home runs. However, with a right-hander on the mound in a day game, the Red Sox will play Wilyer Abreu in right field, Ceddanne Rafaela in center field, David Hamilton at shortstop, and let Romy Gonzalez play second base.
The Dodgers entered the ninth inning with a comfortable six-run lead, but since Phillips had already been warming, they opted to bring him into the game. After giving up a pair of runs and loading the bases while recording only one out though, Dodgers' skipper Dave Roberts turned to Hudson to close it out. He got Masataka Yoshida to ground into a fielder's choice that plated a run and then retired Wilyer Abreu on a fly ball to end it. This may represent a changing of the guard in the ninth inning for the Dodgers.
The home run was Abreu's eighth of the season. He was 8-for-42 (.191) in his last 14 games, but had three hits and with the home run he's homered in two of his last three games. The all-star break is three days away, but Abreu could be figuring it out at the plate and be a mixed league option in the second half.
Hamilton will start at second base and hit second, which is typical for him against righties. Wilyer Abreu and Dominic Smith are also back in the lineup after sitting out on Wednesday against a left-handed pitcher.
