Carpenter, who is hitting .400 (10-for-25) with one homer and one steal over his last seven games, takes a seat with veteran lefty Eric Lauer toeing the rubber on Saturday afternoon for Toronto. It'll be Justyn-Henry Malloy coming up to the leadoff spot with Gleyber Torres getting a break from the field at DH.

Chapman got into trouble right away upon entering a tie ballgame in the bottom of the ninth inning by issuing a leadoff walk to Andy Ibanez, who promptly swiped second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Connor Wong. He struck out Trey Sweeney and got a red-hot Javier Baez to pop out, which gave him a chance to send the contest to extra innings. Unfortunately, he left a fastball over the heart of the plate, which pinch-hitter Justyn-Henry Malloy smacked for a walk-off single.

Carpenter finds himself back in the leadoff spot after Justyn-Henry Malloy got the call to face lefties Patrick Corbin and Kyle Freeland in their previous two contests. The 27-year-old slugging corner outfielder is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with one homer and six RBI over his last seven contests. He'll continue to do damage against right-handed pitching while taking a seat against tougher southpaws.

Sweeney lined a single into right field off of Kyle Freeland in the second inning and came around to score as Zach McKinstry bounced into a fielder's choice. He added another single the following frame and raced around to score on a single off the bat of Justyn-Henry Malloy. Sweeney has collected nine hits in his last three games, raising his batting average from .206 to .261 in the process.
