Randy Vasquez

Player News

Vasquez is amazing at mixing his deep arsenal just enough to avoid significant damage. Overall, he threw all five of his pitches at least 11% of the time in this one and was pitching a shutout until Nathan Lukes smacked a hanging sweeper for a two-run homer. That was the extent of the damage and while he misses very few bats - just three whiffs in this start - he now has an excellent 3.49 ERA on the season. He's lined up for an enticing two-start week coming up against the Marlins and Pirates.

Believe it or not, this game was scoreless in the fifth inning before Lukes' go-ahead home run against Randy Vasquez. Then, the floodgates opened and Toronto put up 12 runs between the seventh and eighth innings. Lukes and Jonatan Clase are in a battle for playing time in the corner outfield while Andres Gimenez is out, Ernie Clement is replacing him at second base, and Addison Barger - who had two hits and five hard-hit balls in this game - filling the void at third. It will be interesting to see how the playing time works out among this group when Gimenez eventually returns.

Ward was responsible for the only run off Randy Vasquez and the San Diego pitching staff in yet another loss for the Angels. He's gone deep 10 times in 2025, and two of those have come in his last three games. Ward will turn 32 this December, and assuming the Angels are out of playoff contention -- and they will be -- it's pretty easy to picture him wearing a different uniform by the time August rolls around.

The only run allowed by Vasquez in the win was a solo homer by Taylor Ward. Outside of that, the right-hander scattered four hits -- two of those for extra bases -- and only issued a walk. Outside of an awful six-run, two-inning effort against the Tigers, the 26-year-old has looked the part, and his ERA is now down to a solid 3.45 on the 2025 campaign. His past struggles may make fantasy managers skeptical, but he's put himself on the fantasy radar in redraft leagues. He gets the Blue Jays on Wednesday in Toronto.
