Burleson continued his hot hitting and gave the Cardinals an early lead in this one with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning after Masyn Winn led off the game with a triple. He then added on RBI singles in the second and ninth innings. The 25-year-old is coming into his own at the plate -- hitting .292/.323/.492 with 17 homers, 57 RBI and seven stolen bases.

He notched four strikeouts and only handed out one free pass. The 40-year-old ageless veteran will carry a 3.65 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 101/39 K/BB ratio across 103 1/3 innings (18 starts) into a road matchup against the Mets on Thursday.

The Cardinals added on in the second on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Alec Burleson. Assad got just two whiffs on 44 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He now holds a 3.27 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 79/35 K/BB ratio over 85 1/3 innings in 17 starts on the season.
Winn led off the first inning for St. Louis with a base hit and scored on a single by Willson Contreras. He then drove in two runs with a single in the same inning as the Cardinals brought nine runs in to score in the opening frame. The 22-year-old shortstop is having an excellent first full season in the majors, slashing .285/.334/.401 with four homers, 41 runs scored, 32 RBI, and nine steals across 343 plate appearances.
Winn has a hit in six straight games and is 11-for-27 (.407) in that time. He drove in Nolan Gorman with an RBI single in the third inning and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Nolan Arenado. He scored again on a wild pitch in the fourth inning. Winn is hitting .294 with a .761 OPS and 30 RBI on the season.
