NBC SportsDavid Fry is absent from the Guardians' starting lineup for Friday's tilt against the Rays.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine night off for the All-Star reserve, though he has seen his production at the plate fall off considerably in recent weeks. Angel Martinez will function as the team's designated hitter on Friday night against Taj Bradley and the Rays while Jhonkensy Noel will start in right field and bat fifth for the Guardians.

NBC SportsGuardians activated OF Will Brennan (hamstring) from the 10-Day IL.

Brennan was playing nearly every day for the Guardians before going on the IL on June 27th. He figures to return to that same role, which could mean less playing time for Angel Martinez or Daniel Schneemann. Gabriel Arias was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

NBC SportsGuardians optioned INF/OF Gabriel Arias to Triple-A Columbus.

With Will Brennan coming off the IL, the Guardians decided to move Arias back to the minors. It's good news for Angel Martinez that he remains on the roster, but the team will likely continue to shuffle the hitters at the bottom of their roster for the remainder of the season.

NBC SportsReese Olson picked up his fourth victory of the season on Wednesday night in Motown, limiting the Guardians to three runs on six hits over his six innings of work.

The 24-year-old hurler allowed just one base on balls while punching out three batters on the night. The Guardians scored a pair of runs against Olson in the third inning on a two-run double by Angel Martinez, then they tacked on another in the fourth on a solo blast by Daniel Schneemann. Olson generated 12 swings and misses on 95 pitches in the contest -- six on his slider -- while posting a CSW of 25 percent. He concludes a strong first half with a 4-8 record, 3.30 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 92/29 K/BB ratio over 101 innings in 18 starts.

NBC SportsJhonkensy Noel went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI against the Giants on Saturday.

The home run was already Noel's third in just 23 at-bats with the Guardians. He also hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score Angel Martinez. Noel is certainly worth a look in deeper formats at this point. The only question is if he can make enough contact to stay in the lineup as he's already struck out 10 times in 27 plate appearances.
