Ortiz gave up three hits, walked two and struck out two. Ortiz has quietly been pitching great this year. This was just his fourth start of the season, but Ortiz has a 0.73 ERA as a starter for Pittsburgh. Given his success, it seems likely that the Pirates will keep him in the rotation at least for the time being. Ortiz has to be rostered in all formats at this point. The 25-year-old right-hander is set to face the Diamondbacks on the road next weekend.
It's an extremely tough matchup out of the gate for Perez as he'll square off against a fully-loaded Phillies lineup to open the second half. It'll be Luis Ortiz and Marco Gonzales this weekend for the rest of the series. We'd strongly recommend avoiding this entire trio for fantasy purposes.
CHICAGO (AP) Bryan Reynolds drove in four runs, Luis Ortiz pitched neatly into the sixth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago White Sox 6-2 on Saturday. Reynolds had four hits. He gave Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead in the seventh with a two-run single against reliever Tanner Banks and singled in two more during a three-run ninth, sending...
Ortiz has been excellent through his first three starts for the Pirates, allowing no more than one run in each outing. He got through five scoreless against the White Sox on Saturday before a pair of hits brought a run in for Chicago in the sixth. Ortiz would leave with two outs in the frame at 94 pitches. He struck out five and walked one. The 25-year-old right-hander holds a 2.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 57/19 K/BB ratio across 66 2/3 innings (49 as a reliever).
Ortiz is in the midst of the best stretch of his career. He stifled the Mets with slider after slider and his fastball and sinker were still sitting in the upper 90s into the sixth inning. For a pitcher that has struggled with handing out free passes in the past, Ortiz hasn't walked a batter in three straight outings (16 IP) and hasn't walked multiple batters in a game since May 24th. There's a lot to like here and he should have a long leash in the Pirates' rotation with Jared Jones' injury.
