Berti didn't start Game 1 against Michael Wacha, but he'll be in there on Thursday against Wacha in Game 4. Berti went 1-for-4 in Game 2 when the Royals started Cole Ragans and hasn't appeared in the other two games in the series. Oswaldo Cabrera started at first base in Game 3 and went 0-for-1 with three walks. The rest of the Yankees lineup is unchanged: 2B Gleyber Torres, RF Juan Soto, CF Aaron Judge, C Austin Wells, DH Giancarlo Stanton, 3B Jazz Chisholm, SS Anthony Volpe, LF Alex Verdugo, and 1B Jon Berti.
Ragans and Carlos Rodon both seemed to fade quickly tonight, but it resulted in only one run being charged to Ragans and that just because Bobby Witt Jr. couldn't corral a hard shot to short. The left-hander wound up striking out five and walking four while throwing 87 pitches to get his 12 outs. He'll be expected to start again if there's a Game 5 on Saturday.
Berti has never played first base in an MLB game but the Yankees will turn to him here in Game 2 of the ALDS. They wanted a right-handed bat in the lineup against Cole Ragans, so they'll roll the dice that the long-time infielder can make the quick transition to a new position.
Ragans (calf) will start Monday in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Yankees, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
O'Hearn took a seat to begin Tuesday's loss to the Royals with southpaw Cole Ragans on the mound, but he's in the middle of the Baltimore lineup in a must-win game for the O's against right-hander Seth Lugo. James McCann is out of the lineup with Adley Rutschman resuming catching duties. The full lineup for the Orioles: Gunnar Henderson SS, Jordan Westburg 2B, Anthony Santander RF, Colton Cowser LF, Rutschman C, O'Hearn DH, Ryan Mountcastle 1B, Cedric Mullins CF and Ramon Urias at third.
