The Dodgers need Tyler Glasnow to deliver more outings like his performance Wednesday during a home loss to the San Francisco Giants.
Glasnow was solid in his return from the injured list, holding the Giants to two runs over five frames. Matt Chapman took him deep for a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning. A double and a base hit would bring one more run in before Glasnow escaped the frame. He tossed one more inning, ending his day after five with four strikeouts. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 3.47 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and a 147/33 K/BB ratio across 114 innings into a start against the Padres in San Diego next week.
After drawing a walk in the first inning, Chapman put the Giants on the board with a leadoff homer off Tyler Glasnow in the fourth. He later drew another walk to start the eighth inning and scored on a single by Mike Yastrzemski. Chapman knocked in a run with a base hit before the inning was over as the Giants bat around the order. The 31-year-old third baseman is hitting .233/.324/.411 with 14 homers, 69 runs scored, 45 RBI, and 11 steals across 429 plate appearances.
The Dodgers have not made a trade deadline transaction, but they did make some roster changes intended to bolster their pitching lineup.
The Dodgers needed to free up a spot on their active roster -- and in their rotation -- for the return of Tyler Glasnow on Wednesday and unfortunately Knack was the odd-man out this time around. He'll continue to function as extra rotation depth at the Triple-A level until he's needed once more.
