His spring ERA jumped from 2.57 to 6.52. Elder today relieved AJ Smith-Shawver, who allowed two runs in four innings. Those two are probably next in line if any Braves starters get hurt, but for the moment, it looks like Ian Anderson and Grant Holmes will round out Atlanta's rotation.

The dynamic 24-year-old infielder smacked an RBI single off of Bryce Elder in the second inning that extended the Nationals' early lead to 2-0. He also grounded out and popped out to third base in the contest. Abrams slugged a career-high 20 homers and swiped 31 bases during the 2024 season and could be poised for even greater heights in 2025 with a much improved supporting cast. There's a reason that his average draft position currently sits inside the top 50 players overall in fantasy drafts.

Elder walked one and struck out two batters on the afternoon. All of the damage done against him came in the second inning as Jacob Young plated a run with a fielder's choice and CJ Abrams followed with an RBI single. Elder finds himself fighting with AJ Smith-Shawver, Hurston Waldrep and Ian Anderson for the final spot in the Braves' rotation to open the season, so he'll need to be better than this the rest of the Grapefruit League schedule to stand out above the rest.
