Schmitt will need 8-10 weeks to recover after having the mass removed from his hand, so he should still be ready for spring training. As of right now, he likely tops the depth chart at second base for the Giants, with Tyler Fitzgerald and Christian Koss also in the mix. However, there's a good chance the team will add a veteran to at least compete for the spot.
