With the Cardinals facing left-hander Martin Perez, Gorman will head to the bench. The 24-year-old has shown plus power this season but continues to swing and miss at a high rate and is in danger of seeing his batting average dip below .200; however, if you need home runs, he should be a good source of that in all formats. Brendan Donovan will move to second base on Wednesday with Dylan Carlson starting in the outfield.
The 27-year-old tagged Braves' starter Bryce Elder for a 389-foot solo shot in the fifth inning that increased the Cardinals' lead to 6-2. He also added on a two-run single during the Cardinals' three-run rally in the ninth. With his 2-for-5 night, he's now hitting .275/.342/.415 with nine long balls and 48 RBI on the season.
The stolen base was his third of the season, but Donovan has continued to be a solid super-utility bat, hitting .276/.345/.411 on the season. His batting average upside and mild power/speed combination put him firmly on the fantasy radar in deeper formats.
Goldschmidt extended the Cardinals' early lead with a solo shot -- his 12th big fly of the season -- off Nationals starter Mitchell Parker in the fourth inning. He also reached on a fielding error and came around to score on a Brendan Donovan double in the eighth inning as well. The 36-year-old veteran first baseman has gone deep only five times over his last 30 games and simply hasn't produced enough so far this season to remain rostered in shallow mixed leagues.
Marmol listed the complete outfield alignment as Brendan Donovan in left field, Siani in center, and Lars Nootbaar in right field. He also said he considers Alec Burleson to be "an everyday player and wants him in the lineup as much as possible," likely as a DH or as a corner outfielder. Burleson is starting on Monday as the designated hitter. However, Tommy Edman is also beginning his rehab assignment on Tuesday, so his return would seemingly muddy the waters since one of these four players would likely have to sit if Edman were to return to the lineup.
