With so many flights grounded across the country, it's a bit surprising that we haven't heard more of this on Friday. Helsley and Matt Carpenter are the two Cardinals' players who may not make it in time for Friday's game while coaches Daniel Descalso and Willie McGee are dealing with the same fate. Just something to consider when setting lineups for the weekend.
Burleson knocked a base hit in the first inning and scored on an error. He then capped off a nine-run opening frame with a three-run blast off Hayden Wesneski. Burleson added a double in the third inning and was later replaced by Matt Carpenter with the Cardinals comfortably ahead in the blowout win. The 25-year-old outfielder is slashing .288/.322/.485 with 16 homers, 51 RBI, and seven steals across 332 plate appearances.
He'll likely start the nightcap, but this makes seven straight games out of the starting lineup for Carpenter, even though he was quite productive when the Cardinals used him more regularly last month. It's possible he'll soon lose his roster spot, as the Cardinals have Ivan Herrera ready to come off the injured list and Tommy Edman on a rehab assignment.
