Detmers looked good tonight, particularly with his breaking balls. Before being sent down, he averaged 86.0 mph with his slider and 75.4 mph with his curveball this season. Tonight, he was at 87.2 mph and 74.3 mph, respectively, and the added separation seemed to pay off. Detmers is still a tough mixed-league play on a bad Angels team, but a strong finish would be nice. He'll get the Twins next.
Detmers is slated to take the ball on Tuesday against the Dodgers in his first outing back in the majors since June 1. The 25-year-old southpaw has posted astronomical strikeout rates everywhere he's ever pitched, but continues to leave much to be desired from a run-prevention standpoint. He'll be a viable fantasy option, if he makes some progress in that department.

Detmers has continued to miss bats at truly astounding rates this season at the Triple-A level, but struggled earlier this year in 12 starts for the Angels, which led to an early-June demotion. The 25-year-old southpaw is always going to strike out a ton of batters, which gives him immense fantasy upside, but he needs to show that he can avoid hard contact at the highest level if he's going to evolve into a potential fantasy ace. There's still time for him to make the leap and we're hoping the extra time in the minors has led to a few new wrinkles.
